To answer the question, “What do you want
to be when you grow up?”, I always answered “An Artist”.
I have recently begun to live this dream. Because of my supportive
husband, Sam, I opened my own art supply store in Martinsburg,
WV, called Not Right Minded?. My daughter is at the store with
me and is the inspiration for the store and much of my artwork.
I create artwork for my own pleasure and custom artwork for clients,
including signs, murals and portraits.
My past as an art teacher has given me a broad knowledge
of many styles, artists, artworks and materials. I use this knowledge
as I continue to experiment with a variety of mediums myself.
I also help other artists try new materials, find solutions to
problems or become masters at a specific medium, by giving advice
or instruction at my store. Currently, I work in many mediums
including watercolor, acrylic, oil and pottery. I enjoy working
with each of these mediums for different reasons. My watercolors
are loose and have multiple layers of color when closely scrutinized.
My acrylics have a pop art feel to them. My oils are impressionist
in nature. And I just like the feel of clay between my fingers
when I throw, however, not the dry skin I have later. I plan to
continue in my many mediums and styles, learning as I go, for
as long as my creativity will let me.
